Milrinone
Milrinone is a medication used in patients who have heart failure. It is a phosphodiesterase 3 inhibitor that works to increase the heart’s contractility and decrease pulmonary vascular resistance. It is used particularly intravenously for the short-term management of severe heart failure. It is a positive inotropic cardiotonic agent with vasodilator properties. For longer term use, it becomes essential to monitor its plasma concentration owing to a narrow therapeutic range, an increased half‐life in renal failure and toxicity associated with high levels.
