D-erythro-Sphingosine phosphorylcholine is a bioactive lipid that mediates intracellular as well as extracellular signaling, mobilizes Ca²⁺ from intracellular via an IP3-independent pathway, and stimulates the production of CCL2 which may contribute to the development of atherosclerosis. This compound can also be a precursor of N-functionalized D-erythro-Sphingosine phosphorylcholine derivatives.
