Sphingolipids
Sphingolipids are a class of lipids with a sphingoid backbone, including ceramide, sphingomyelin, cerebroside, and ganglioside derivatives. O-linkage of sphingosine to a phosphocholine group or a phosphoethanolamine group leads to the sphingomyelin category, whereas O-linkage to a single sugar residue leads to the cerebroside category. These compounds play an important role in signal transduction and cell recognition. Nucleosyn also developed and provides stable-isotope labeled sphingomyelin and cerebroside derivatives for therapeutic drug monitoring.
